Complementary therapies are pleasant and relaxing to receive and generally help to improve wellbeing, reduce anxiety and improve resilience.

They can also help with the management of symptoms such as pain, breathlessness, insomnia, constipation and nausea.

During this time when we can't see our patients face to face Sandra has put together a gentle meditation video

If you feel you need to speak to a member of staff the please call the hospice and they will put you in touch with a member of the team 020 8759 0453

Complementary therapies are available as part of our day hospice, out-patient and Therapeutic Care for Carers services.

We offer complementary therapies at home when patients are too unwell to attend the hospice.

We currently offer:

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a treatment derived from ancient Chinese medicine. Fine needles are inserted at certain sites (acupuncture points) in the body for therapeutic or preventative purposes.  It is particularly useful in the management of musculo-skeletal pain.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy uses essential oils specifically blended for the effect you want to achieve.  They can be used for emotional and psychological support, to address a specific problem such as pain or insomnia or, more usually, a combination of both.   They are usually applied in massage.

Massage

Massage manipulates muscles and soft tissues and can be particularly useful in helping to relieve musculo-skeletal pain and the pain in head, neck and shoulders associated with stress and anxiety.

M-Technique

M-Technique is a simple, structured light touch which can be applied directly to the skin or over clothes or blankets.  It is deeply relaxing and suitable for everyone.  It can be used safely with people who are extremely frail, very stressed or even actively dying.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a specific massage technique usually practised on the soles of the feet, but can also be carried out on the palms of the hands. By working on these areas the reflexologist can treat the whole body. This is a relaxing yet energising treatment and has proven benefit in the treatment of nonspecific lower back pain.

Reiki

Reiki is a gentle therapy that works to balance and harmonise the energy field of a person.  The Reiki therapist may lay their hands gently on the body or they may work with their hands off the body in the energy field.  Very relaxing to receive, it can help to reduce anxiety, improve energy levels, clear the mind and aid restful sleep
