“In November 2017 my husband Eddie’s cancer had become terminal. With support from community nurses, we made a decision for Eddie to remain at home for as long as we could and stay together as a family. When his symptoms became harder to control I accepted the offer of an overnight nurse from Harlington Hospice which proved to be heaven sent as she was there to support me the night Eddie died. This allowed me to hold the hand of the man I had loved for over twenty years as he took his last breath. It was a privilege to be able to care for Eddie in his own home and to be there right beside him as he died. I would not have had the courage to do this without he Hospice at Home service stepping into our lives at the toughest of times. It gave us a choice when nearly all others had been taken from us. I cannot adequately express how important this service is. Harlington Hospice and their nurses will hold a special place in my heart forever.”
